How He's in the Game
Isaac Bruce launched the Isaac Bruce Foundation in 2006 which focuses on health, wellness, nutrition, fitness and education. Through his foundation, Isaac reaches out to youth and teaches them at an early age the importance of a healthy lifestyle and collaborates with the Health Youth Partnership to combat youth obesity. Through the Partnership, the Isaac Bruce Foundation provides a snack room with healthy snacks at the participating schools as well as distributes healthy lifestyle tips to the students. The foundation is very close to Isaac’s heart and something that he lives by every day as a life-long commitment. Beyond his foundation, Isaac Bruce hosts free football clinics for more than 600 kids and is always more than willing to donate signed memorabilia to various charitable organizations.
Isaac Bruce has been recognized for his work through the United Way African American Leadership Award in 1999 and the National Sportsmanship Award in 2006. He also served as the spokesperson for both the Salvation Army Campaign and the National City’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. When playing with the San Francisco 49ers, Isaac was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year and the Bart Starr Award as well as the Len Eshmont Award in 2008.
Isaac Bruce characterizes his career and philanthropy by saying: “What I do on the football field is bring entertainment to other people and give them a chance to get away from the daily grind and watch an exciting football game with exciting players. What I do in the community is my service. It is who I am.”
