How He's in the Game

Brandon Phillips has emerged as a star on and off the field. He's been instrumental in the construction of an inner-city baseball field in downtown Cincinnati, which has provided kids with a place to play baseball. The Brandon Phillips Field opened in May 2009. Phillips contributed $25,000 to fund the field as well as $7,500 that he received as part of the Roberto Clemente nomination. He says "It's nice that the kids will have somewhere to play and enjoy the game the way I enjoyed the game."

Phillips committed more of his time when he visited schools to host question-and-answer sessions with the students. Before each Friday home game, Phillips visits children as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Phillips is inspired to help others because of his parents. "If it wasn't for my Mom and my Dad, I wouldn't be the athlete or the man I am today. I thank them for everything I've done."
