Wipe Out Kids' Cancer Young Heroes Scholarship Program
How He's in the Game
Michael and his wife, Cristina, have worked closely with the organization Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer since 2002. Each year, Michael invites children inflicted with cancer and their families to a Rangers home game. The families each receive autographed memorabilia, dinner at the stadium, and they have the chance to go on the field with Michael for a special pre-game ceremony. In 2005, his contributions helped to furnish the outpatient physical therapy room at Children’s Medical Center, providing much needed equipment for patient rehabilitation. The following year, he began the Young Heroes Scholarship Program, a national outreach effort to assist young cancer survivors pursuing college degrees. Each scholarship winner receives $1000 to $2500 in addition to a laptop computer and printer. During the holidays, he supports the Goodwill of Tarrant County, hosting a thanksgiving luncheon and providing winter coats to needy children. Michael is also heavily involved with the Rangers Foundation and serves as the honorary chair for its largest fundraising event of the year.
