The Point of Hope Foundation
How He's in the Game
Hearing the call to service, Deron and his wife Amy established the Point of Hope Foundation in order to improve the quality of life for families and children in need. One of the highlights of the foundation’s programs is the annual charity Christmas Party. As a child of a single mother, and a nephew to a soldier killed in the Gulf War, Williams has a soft spot for families in rough situations, especially those with ties to the military. Through this annual event, Williams’ foundation treats families touched by tragedy to a fancy holiday meal and sends them home with special gifts. The Point of Hope Foundation has also been involved in hosting a similar Thanksgiving event, a charity golf tournament, a charity dodgeball tournament, and a school supply donation program.
Since 2007, Point of Hope has supported dozens of programs, including scholarship funds, single mother support organizations, cancer research, and the Boys and Girls Club. 'There are so many different causes, so many different diseases, so many people who have problems,” Williams says of the foundation’s broad reach. “Point of Hope is just about helping people, and kids, especially.”
About Deron Williams
After leading the University of Illinois’ Fighting Illini to the National Championship game and earning a spot as a Wooden Award finalist, Deron Williams declared for the NBA draft in 2005. By his second year in the league, he had earned the starting point guard position with the Utah Jazz. That year, he lead the team to a Western Division title and his Jazz have continued to be a dangerous team, earning trips to the NBA playoffs ever since. In this most recent season, he was honored by the fans and the media, who selected him to his first ever All Star Game.
