How He's in the Game
As a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Samuel Dalembert has been a leader in international public service among professional athletes. Through his own foundation, as well as organizations such as the NBA, the Red Cross, and UNICEF, he’s worked to provide aid to his home country in the wake of Hurricane Jeanne and the 2010 earthquake. In the last year alone, Dalembert has given more than $125,000 to Haitian relief efforts. He’s also working to build a new library in the capital, for which he’s secured donation pledges of roughly 7,500 books.
Aside from his work in Haiti, he also campaigns to improve the lives of impoverished citizens here in the United States through his team’s community outreach efforts. Among other things, he routinely donates tickets to home games for fans that would be otherwise unable to attend the event. Regarding his international aid efforts, Dalembert says, “There are countless ways for me to give back in life, especially with the blessing of basketball, and I intend to do that in any way that I can.”
