On August 25, 2011 we held our sixth "Music, Art & Heart" at the historic Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. With close to 200 attendees in the cozy venue, the night was a wonderful reminder of what it means to be part of the All Stars family. The evening started with cocktails and hors d'oeuvre's, giving the guests a chance to mingle and view the work of our three featured artists, Sandow Birk, Dianna Cohen and Yun Liang. Their pieces were up for auction and we knew we had a true crowd of art lovers, because every last one sold! Attendees were having so much fun that only the sight of Ronnie Lott taking the mic could bring them to their seats. After a brief welcome he turned it over to our new Executive Director, Kamba Tshionyi, who had everyone—Baron Davis included—laughing with his jokes about being the best point guard in the room. His inspiring speech reminded us that All Stars' heart lies in setting our children up for success, and set clear goals for the future: "Over the next three years, All Stars aims to invest over $1 million dollars in organizations working to level the playing field for more than 100,000 kids in the Bay Area." The evening ended on a high note with Kenny Loggins' performance, which got everyone on their feet, dancing, and singing along to favorites like "Danny's Song," "Footloose," and "Danger Zone." Event proceeds were divided between three Bay Area organizations: Tipping Point, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, and All Stars, and our warmest thanks go to all the teammates who made Music, Art & Heart a huge success! |
