Why Get Involved? Because...

• 97% of teachers frequently dip into their own pockets to purchase necessary classroom supplies.¹ Furthermore, last year, teachers spent more than $350 on average from their own income on school supplies and instructional materials, and experts anticipate these costs will continue rising.²

• More than 61% of low income families don’t have a single book in their home. This is particularly alarming since we know that the only behavioral measure that correlates significantly with reading scores is the number of books in the home. 80% of the preschool and after-school programs serving at-risk children have no books at all.³ 
• Up to 40% of U.S. school districts have reduced or eliminated recess, and one in four elementary schools provides no recess at all.⁴ 

Why does this matter to us?
